Cambridge Secondary Curriculum for Junior Levels

The Cambridge Secondary Curriculum is a program designed for students aged 11 to 16. It offers a comprehensive and flexible educational framework that prepares students for higher education and future careers. The curriculum emphasizes academic rigor, critical thinking, and the development of independent learning skills.

Core Subjects

  • English Language and Literature: Focuses on enhancing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The curriculum covers a wide range of texts and genres, fostering analytical and creative writing abilities.
  • Mathematics: Develops mathematical understanding and skills through topics such as algebra, geometry, statistics, and calculus. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, logical reasoning, and real-world applications.
  • Science: Includes Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The curriculum encourages practical experimentation, scientific inquiry, and understanding of scientific concepts and principles.

Global Perspectives Subject

The curriculum includes elements that encourage students to understand and appreciate different cultures, fostering a global outlook from an early age. The Global Perspective subject in the Cambridge Curriculum gives students:

  • The chance to explore the global issues that matter most to them.
  • The opportunity to acquire the presentation, collaboration and research skills highly regarded by universities and employers.
  • The freedom to question and to think independently.
  • The chance to express yourself with team projects, independent research and oral presentations.
  • The opportunity to look at other viewpoints and perspectives on a global topic, as well as the time to reflect on your own views.

Cambridge Checkpoint

  • At the end of Cambridge Lower Secondary (typically at age 14), students can take the Cambridge Checkpoint tests in English, Mathematics, and Science. These assessments provide valuable feedback on students’ strengths and areas for improvement.

Cambridge IGCSE

  • The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is a globally recognized qualification typically taken at age 16. It offers over 70 subjects, allowing students to tailor their studies to their interests and career aspirations. The IGCSE prepares students for the next stage of education, such as A Levels or the International Baccalaureate (IB).
